Getting young people excited about technology
Endress+Hauser and Schülerforschungszentrum Region Freiburg sign cooperation agreement
In Maulburg, Germany, a research center for young students in the Wiesental region is being established. Endress+Hauser is operating the facility in conjunction with a sponsor to offer courses at no cost.
An investment in the future
“Our aim with the student research center is to get young people excited about technology,” says Dr Peter Selders, Managing Director of Endress+Hauser Level+Pressure in Maulburg. “The center represents an investment in our future because it can lay the foundation for a career at Endress+Hauser. We are open to cooperation at the same time. We want the entire Wiesental region to profit from our engagement,” adds Selders.
Diverse, practical courses
The courses offered by the center involve innovative technologies and skills in fields such as robotics, electronics and 3D printing. The students, mainly children and teenagers, learn various programming languages and how to operate modern industrial tools, with a focus on practical applications. The required equipment is made available to the course participants.
Sponsor coordinates other student research centers
“Our goal is to promote young talent in the entire southern Baden region in the fields of science and technology,” says Severin Stief, board member of the Schülerforschungszentrum Region Freiburg e.V. (SFZ), a public-private initiative that is working in concert with Endress+Hauser as a sponsor to set up and operate the center. “With Endress+Hauser we are gaining an ideal partner to help us offer young students various courses and projects in the Wiesental region,” says Severin Stief.
SFZ, an extracurricular research center recognized by the Baden-Württemberg Ministry of Education and Culture, operates and coordinates additional facilities in Emmendingen, Freiburg, Müllheim, Titisee-Neustadt and Waldkirch.
Courses can be booked online
The cooperation agreement has already been signed by Endress+Hauser and SFZ. Young people can now book courses via an online platform (https://sfz-region-freiburg.de/angebote/). The courses, which are free of charge, will begin in May 2023 when the rooms at the research center in Maulburg are scheduled to be ready.
Further plans call for cooperation with schools, training and education partners and private initiatives to offer courses with content and knowledge transfer methods tailored specifically to various age groups and educational backgrounds.
